Hey there! I appreciate you for tuning in for day 12. Today I won't be before you long. I just started a new job ya'll and I had no idea what I was signing up for. I am there from 3-12 on weekdays and 4-1 on weekends. I am soooooo TIRED. I wasn't even able to edit and post yesterday's video till this morning! It's already 1 pm today and I STILL have to record, edit, and post today's video, AND write today's blog post (this one) BY 3! Oh! And did I mention that I'm tired? I WANT TO TAKE A NAP! Anyway, I just had to get that off my chest before I start writing.
I think I mentioned it before in one of the blogs from this series, I use to pray for God to make me normal and He never granted me that. I don't know if any of you have really struggled with your identity, but it has been a roller coaster of a battle for me. What made it worse is the fact that most groups of people, I don't fit in with. I may have different groups of friends that I am welcome to hang with, but for a very long time I didn't have "My Tribe." Ya'll know what I'm saying? Well, I know some of you get it. There are a few moments in my life that I can remember that helped me to appreciate my uniqueness a little more. I'll tell you the 1 of them.
One thing that helped me with this was my participation in DPP. When I first moved to NY, I met a woman named Shanese Powell. She is a life coach, and she has a business called DPP. The mission of DPP is to help people uncover, discover, and reach their Dreams, Passions, and Purpose. So I had the opportunity to work with her and honestly, my BIGGEST breakthrough came from my very first meeting with her. See I have this weird relationship with the word weird. See as I said, I never really fit in with the crowd so my whole life people have called me weird, and sometimes if you can't beat them you join them. So I would call myself weird too. In my meeting for DPP, I'm expressing all of these things and I keep saying things like "I know that's weird", "I'm weird sooo...", "it's a weird idea but..". She picked up on that. She said to me "You keep using the word weird, why?". So I go into my background with the word just a little bit. She responds by explaining to me that just because something is different doesn't make it weird, and then says "You don't sound weird to me, it sounds more like you're a visionary." And I wanna say I understood, but I had o idea what that word meant lol! So I googled it.
vi·sion·ar·y
Adjective:
1- (especially of a person) thinking about or planning the future with imagination or wisdom.
2- relating to or able to see visions in a dream or trance, or as a supernatural apparition.
Noun:
1- a person with original ideas about what the future will or could be like.
And with one word she quite literally changed my life. I know that sounds dramatic, but it really is that big a deal. It changed my life because it shifted my perspective. I always thought that something was wrong with me and I just dealt with it. Like I would try to hide parts of me and keep thoughts and ideas to myself because It was "weird". But this thing that I thought was a flaw... is actually my superpower. Not only that, but if I lean into it I find freedom. I would honestly encourage ya'll to check out DPP for real, it's worth it I promise you! Tell her Woods sent you! (https://www.dpp2life.org/)
See the thing is, God designed you in a very specific way. There is a purpose to all parts of you. But if you spend all your time trying to fit in, you will never unlock the fullness of who you have the power to be. The sooner we accept who we are, the sooner we can become aligned with our purpose, and the sooner that daunting dissonance between us and the world will dissipate so that we can move in freedom. You know when you're on a flight and they turn the seatbelt sign off and the captain says "Ladies and gentlemen you are now free to move about the cabin (BING)"? Yeah, that's what happens in your life when you accept who you are; (Woods Captain Voice lol) " (BING) BABY! YOU ARE NOW FREE TO MOVE ABOUT THIS WORLD, AS IS, IN THE FULLNESS OF YOU (BING)!"
There is a space for you! It exists. There are people who are waiting for who you are, what you are, what you can create, and what you can do! If you spend your time being someone else, then the world is at a deficit because it is missing what you were supposed to bring to it. Do you know there are communities waiting for you? Not the you you're pretending to be, the you you are. Be yourself. You are literally the only person who can do that. Your dreams, passions, and purpose rely on you being yourself!
I love ya'll for real! Talk tomorrow? Cool!
